The Man Who Walked Between the Towers

Summary:
The book begins with a Street Performer in New York City who notices the twin towers and decides he wants to tie a wire between them. He and two friends take a string and an arrow and shoot it from one tower to the next. They Walk a reel of cable up the stairs and tie the rope to the cable. They let it drop and then tighten it. Philippe Petit spent an hour walking, dancing, and lying down on the wire above the city. He was arrested when he finally walked off the wire. The judge sentenced him to perform for children in the park as his punishment.
Here is a video of the news when this event took place August 7, 1974. There was a movie made 2008 best documentary winner called Man on Wire. There is a book written by Colum McCann called Let the Great World Spin.
